Values & Ethos

Values and Ethos

At Kingstone High School, our intent is to provide a personal development programme that enables all pupils to thrive academically, socially and emotionally, and to be well prepared for life in modern Britain.

Our motto, Achieving Success Together, reflects our belief that pupils succeed best within a supportive and inclusive community.

This is underpinned by our core values of Perseverance, Kindness and Respect, which shape our expectations, relationships and daily practice.

We aim to develop confident, resilient and aspirational young people who demonstrate integrity, empathy and responsibility.

Intent for Personal Development and Character Education

Our intent is that all pupils receive a broad, balanced and coherent personal development programme that supports their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

We aim to ensure that pupils:

  • develop strong self-awareness, emotional literacy and resilience
  • form positive, respectful and healthy relationships
  • understand how to keep themselves and others safe, including online
  • develop a clear sense of right and wrong and act responsibly
  • are prepared to contribute positively to their communities and wider society

Personal development is planned deliberately and progressively so that learning builds over time and supports pupils at each stage of their education.

Intent of the SPHERE Curriculum

Personal development is delivered through our SPHERE curriculum, which stands for Social, Personal, Health, Economy, Relationships and Environment.

The intent of the SPHERE curriculum is to provide pupils with the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to navigate life confidently and responsibly. It is designed to be age-appropriate, inclusive and responsive, supporting pupils to make informed choices and understand their role within society.

Through SPHERE, pupils are supported to:

  • develop healthy attitudes to physical and mental wellbeing
  • understand relationships, consent and respect
  • build financial awareness and economic understanding
  • recognise their responsibilities to others and the environment
  • engage thoughtfully with moral, social and cultural issues

The curriculum is reviewed regularly to ensure it remains relevant, statutory-compliant and responsive to the needs of pupils and the wider world.

Intent for British Values and Citizenship

Our intent is to ensure that pupils understand and uphold British Values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance.

We aim to develop pupils who:

  • respect diversity and different viewpoints
  • engage thoughtfully with social, cultural and ethical issues
  • understand their rights and responsibilities
  • are prepared to participate actively in democratic society

Opportunities for reflection, discussion and pupil voice are central to this intent, supporting pupils to become informed, respectful and active citizens.

Intent for Pastoral Care, Wellbeing and Safeguarding

Our intent is to create a culture in which pupils feel safe, supported and valued, and where wellbeing and safeguarding are prioritised as foundations for learning and personal growth.

We aim to ensure that:

  • pupils have trusted adults they can turn to for support
  • emotional wellbeing is promoted proactively
  • early support is provided when concerns arise
  • strong relationships between pupils, staff and families are maintained

This values-driven approach reflects our commitment to Kindness and Respect, ensuring that pupils are supported to overcome challenges and develop resilience.

Intent for Enrichment and Wider Development

Our intent is to provide pupils with opportunities beyond the classroom that enrich their personal development and broaden their experiences.

We aim to:

  • promote confidence, creativity and teamwork
  • support pupils to discover interests and talents
  • develop leadership, responsibility and self-belief
  • encourage pride in achievement and contribution

These opportunities complement the curriculum and support pupils to grow into well-rounded, motivated and confident young people.
