Behavioural Expectations
Behavioural Expectations
At Kingstone High School, we are committed to creating a calm, safe and purposeful environment where every student can succeed. Our approach to behaviour is rooted in our core expectations of being Ready, Respectful and Safe, which guide how students learn, interact and conduct themselves throughout the school day.
Positive behaviour is actively taught, modelled and reinforced. Students are supported to understand not only what is expected of them, but why these expectations matter, helping them to develop the habits, attitudes and character needed for success both in school and beyond.
Our staff consistently reinforce these expectations, ensuring that classrooms remain focused, productive and free from disruption. Clear routines and shared language help students understand what is expected and support them in making positive choices.
Recognising Positive Behaviour
We believe that positive behaviour should be recognised, celebrated and encouraged as an essential part of our school culture. Students who consistently demonstrate our expectations of being Ready, Respectful and Safe contribute positively to the school community and act as role models for others.
Recognition takes a range of forms, including praise in lessons, positive points on Go4Schools, communication with parents and carers, and celebration in tutor time or assemblies. Students may also be given opportunities to take on leadership roles and contribute more widely to school life.
By celebrating positive behaviour, we reinforce our shared values of kindness, perseverance and respect, and help students to feel a strong sense of belonging within the school community. This not only encourages students to continue making positive choices, but also supports them in developing the confidence, character and habits needed for future success.
When Behavioural Issues Arise
The school uses a clear and consistent approach to behaviour, based on a structured process that ensures expectations are understood and managed fairly. This approach is designed to help students learn from mistakes in a safe and predictable environment, while setting clear boundaries around acceptable behaviour.
When expectations are not met, behaviour is addressed promptly and recorded appropriately, with follow-up actions such as restorative conversations and after-school detentions used to support reflection and improvement. Where necessary, additional support is provided through our Hub, Reset Room, and the Internal Work Room (IWR) to ensure that learning can continue without disruption.
This approach helps students to take responsibility for their actions, understand the impact of their behaviour on others, and develop the habits and self-discipline needed for future success. It also ensures that the learning of others is protected, allowing all students to benefit from a calm and purposeful environment.
